Cyric is the god of lies, madness, and strife — a mortal who ascended to godhood through treachery and murder, and who has been sliding into divine insanity ever since. He is brilliant, charismatic, and utterly unhinged, convinced of his own supreme importance in a way that borders on delusional even by divine standards. He craves worship above all else and is willing to promise anything to anyone to get it.
Cyric’s greatest power is deception — he is the patron of lies so convincing that even gods have believed them. He has murdered other deities, manipulated divine politics, and caused catastrophes of world-shaking proportion, all in pursuit of recognition and power.
Followers
Cyric attracts liars, manipulators, the power-hungry, and those who have been driven to madness. His worship is outlawed almost everywhere. His clergy are unpredictable and untrustworthy even to each other — a cult defined by internal betrayal and constant power struggles. His followers tend to be intelligent but deeply unstable, capable of great cunning but prone to self-destructive behavior as their sanity erodes.
Divine Relationships
Cyric has made enemies of nearly every deity in the pantheon through his various schemes and murders. He killed Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul at various points, though all have since returned. He is despised by Tyr, Kelemvor (who was once his mortal companion), and Mystra. Even evil deities distrust him deeply, as his madness makes him an unreliable ally.
