Bhaal is the god of murder — specifically the act of killing, the planning of death, and the dark satisfaction that comes from taking a life. He is one of the Dead Three, and unlike Bane he has only partially returned to divinity, making him more desperate and dangerous than before his death. Before dying, Bhaal seeded countless mortal bloodlines with his divine essence, creating what became known as the Bhaalspawn — mortals carrying a fragment of his power that he intended to use for resurrection.
Bhaal is not merely evil — he is singular in his focus. He does not seek empire or knowledge or love; he seeks death. Every murder committed in the world feeds a tiny fragment of power back to him, making him patient in a way that is deeply unsettling.
Followers
Bhaal attracts assassins, serial killers, and those who find meaning or power in the act of killing. His worship is secretive and widely outlawed. His clergy, called Death Priests, perform ritual murders as acts of devotion and are considered among the most dangerous and hunted individuals in the world. His followers tend to be cold, calculating, and entirely comfortable with death — their own included.
Divine Relationships
Bhaal was one of the Dead Three alongside Bane and Myrkul, but their alliance was always one of convenience rather than genuine loyalty. He is opposed by virtually every good and neutral deity, most notably Kelemvor, who guards the sanctity of the dead, and Tyr, whose concept of justice is the antithesis of Bhaal’s random murder. He views other evil deities as competitors rather than allies.
