Bane is the god of tyranny, fear, and hatred — one of the most feared and widely worshipped evil deities in the world. He does not merely represent cruelty for its own sake; Bane believes in absolute order through absolute control. In his vision of the world, all things submit to a single dominating will — ideally his own. He is cold, calculating, and patient, preferring to conquer through manipulation and intimidation rather than brute force alone.

Bane is one of the Dead Three alongside Bhaal and Myrkul, though unlike his counterparts he has returned to full divinity and actively pursues dominion over the world’s mortal civilizations.

Followers

Bane attracts tyrants, conquerors, military commanders, and those who crave power over others. His followers believe strength is the only true virtue and that weakness deserves subjugation. His clergy, called Dreadmasters, run highly structured hierarchies where rank is earned through ruthless ambition and total loyalty to those above. Followers are expected to spread fear, enforce obedience, and advance Bane’s influence in every institution they touch. They are calculating, disciplined, and merciless.

Divine Relationships

Bane was once part of the Dead Three with Bhaal and Myrkul, and while they share history, he views them more as tools than true allies. He is in constant opposition to Tyr and the Triad, as well as Tempus, whose chaotic approach to war conflicts with Bane’s desire for controlled domination. He also clashes with Cyric, who murdered him once and whose madness Bane finds contemptible.
