Loviatar is the goddess of pain — not the reluctant suffering of Ilmater’s martyrdom, but the deliberate, controlled, and savored infliction of agony. She is cold, precise, and eerily beautiful, depicted as a pale woman in white robes who views the causing of pain as an art form. She is disciplined where Talona is chaotic, methodical where other evil deities are impulsive, and takes a craftsperson’s pride in the perfect calibration of suffering.

Loviatar teaches that pain is the truest form of honesty — that in pain, all masks fall and the real person is revealed. She views the capacity to both cause and endure pain as the measure of a person’s true nature.

Followers

Loviatar attracts torturers, inquisitors, those who enjoy cruelty, and paradoxically some ascetics who believe in the spiritual revelation of endured pain. Her clergy are disciplined, methodical, and deeply unsettling — they approach their dark work with the detached professionalism of craftspeople. Her faith has a complicated relationship with Ilmater’s, as both deal in suffering, but where Ilmater’s followers absorb pain to relieve others, Loviatar’s followers inflict it deliberately.

Divine Relationships

Loviatar has a strange, tense relationship with Ilmater — the two deities of suffering are mirror opposites, and their followers clash constantly. She also has a complicated dynamic with Talona, the goddess of disease, as both operate in the space of physical suffering but through entirely different methods. She serves as a lesser power within the broader sphere of evil deities and has a respectful if cold relationship with Bane, whose disciplined cruelty she understands.
