Tempus is the god of war — not of conquest or tyranny, but of battle itself. He loves war for its own sake: the clash of steel, the test of courage, the raw honesty of combat. He is neither good nor evil; he bestows his favor on both sides of any conflict equally, caring only that the fight is fought with valor. Tempus believes war is an inevitable and necessary part of the mortal condition, a crucible that forges the worthy and removes the weak.
He is depicted as a huge, battle-scarred warrior clad in blood-soaked armor, ever ready to wade into the fray. Despite his chaotic nature he holds a code: he despises cowardly tactics, the slaughter of non-combatants, and warfare that serves no purpose beyond cruelty.
Followers
Warriors, soldiers, mercenaries, and anyone who makes their living by the sword tend to offer prayers to Tempus. His followers are expected to be brave, fight with honor, respect worthy opponents, and never shy from a fair fight. His clergy maintain temples that double as training grounds and often serve as battlefield chaplains. They are fierce, direct, and deeply practical — they have little patience for politics or subtlety and prefer to solve problems head-on.
Divine Relationships
Tempus has a complicated relationship with Bane, whose vision of controlled, domination-driven warfare conflicts with Tempus’s love of pure battle. He respects Tyr as a fellow warrior deity despite their alignment differences. He has an ongoing rivalry with Garagos, a lesser war deity he once defeated. Shar and Cyric are among his enemies, as their methods of deception and manipulation are anathema to his direct approach to conflict.
