Helm is the god of protection, guardians, and eternal vigilance. He is the embodiment of the dutiful protector — steady, unflinching, and utterly devoted to his charge regardless of personal cost. He is depicted as a massive armored warrior with an ever-open eye on his helm, who never sleeps and never abandons his post.
Helm is not a warm or emotionally expressive deity — he is defined by his absolute reliability and his willingness to do whatever is necessary to protect those in his care. He has a complicated legacy, having been ordered to guard the gates of the heavens during a crisis that caused enormous suffering — and obeying that order even when it caused him great personal grief. His followers see this as the ultimate expression of duty; his critics see it as a cautionary tale about blind obedience.
Followers
Helm’s followers are guards, soldiers, paladins, and anyone whose role is to protect others. His faith is especially popular among city watch members, bodyguards, and border soldiers. His clergy are expected to be reliable, vigilant, and incorruptible — they do not abandon their charges and do not bend their principles even under pressure. They tend to be stoic, serious, and deeply trustworthy, though sometimes inflexible and lacking in imagination.
Divine Relationships
Helm is closely allied with Tyr and Torm as part of the Triad. He has a respectful but sometimes tense relationship with Tyr, as questions of justice versus duty sometimes put them at odds. He opposes Cyric, Bane, and Mask, all of whom represent threats to order and protection. He has a complicated history with Mystra stemming from his role in a divine crisis that hurt her.
