Mask is the god of thieves, shadows, and deception — the patron of those who live by cunning, misdirection, and the taking of what belongs to others. He is not a deity of violence or cruelty; his domain is subtlety. The perfect crime, the unseen theft, the con that leaves the victim confused rather than harmed — these are his ideals. He values cleverness above all else and has little respect for those who rely on brute force.

Mask has a complicated divine history, having been absorbed by Shar at one point and later reconstituting himself from her shadow — a feat that speaks to his resilience and cleverness even among the gods.

Followers

Mask’s followers are thieves, rogues, spies, and con artists. His faith has no formal temples — worship happens in hidden shrines in thieves’ guilds, back alleys, and secret meeting places. His followers are expected to be skilled at their craft, avoid unnecessary violence, and never get caught — getting caught is a sign of insufficient cleverness and therefore a religious failing. They tend to be charming, adaptable, and deeply self-reliant.

Divine Relationships

Mask has a complex and adversarial relationship with Shar, who once consumed him. He opposes Waukeen, whose honest merchants are his followers’ preferred targets, and Tyr, whose justice system threatens his faithful. He has an ambivalent relationship with Cyric — both deal in deception, but Mask’s pragmatic cleverness contrasts sharply with Cyric’s erratic madness.
