Selûne is the goddess of the moon, stars, and those who travel by night. She is ancient and deeply compassionate — one of the first beings in existence, she sacrificed parts of herself in the earliest days of creation to bring light into the darkness, an act that sparked her eternal conflict with her twin sister Shar. Selûne is nurturing and protective, watching over travelers, sailors, and all who must navigate the dangers of the night.
She is associated with cycles, change, and the passage of time — much like the moon itself. She accepts all who come to her in genuine need, including lycanthropes who struggle with their curse, whom she views with sympathy rather than condemnation.
Followers
Selûne’s followers include sailors, navigators, travelers, and those who work or move at night. She is also widely worshipped by those who are lost — literally or spiritually — seeking guidance. Her temples are often open to anyone seeking shelter. Her clergy are warm, welcoming, and deeply empathetic, often serving as healers and counselors. Many of her followers have a wandering nature, feeling called to travel and help those they meet along the way.
Divine Relationships
Selûne’s eternal conflict with her twin sister Shar is the defining relationship of her divine existence — it predates mortal civilization and will likely outlast it. She is closely allied with Mystra, whom she helped nurture in an earlier incarnation. She also has warm relationships with Lathander and Chauntea. She views Umberlee with wariness, as the sea goddess’s storms threaten the sailors Selûne protects.
