Asmodeus is the supreme ruler of the Nine Hells and, in the current age, a true deity — having claimed divine status through ancient compact and the accumulated power of mortal sin and worship. He is the most powerful archdevil in existence and one of the most dangerous beings in the multiverse, combining the cunning of a divine mind with millennia of political experience and an absolute commitment to order through domination.
He is not merely evil — he is the embodiment of structured, lawful evil at its most sophisticated. He believes the universe functions best under a rigid hierarchy with himself at the top, and every scheme he runs across centuries moves toward that end. He is devastatingly charming, impossibly patient, and never acts without a plan within a plan within a plan.
Followers
Asmodeus is worshipped by those who seek power, those who have made infernal pacts, and those who believe that order and hierarchy justify any cruelty. His mortal cult is secretive and sophisticated — more like a political organization than a traditional religion. His clergy tend to be lawyers, politicians, and manipulators who work within existing power structures to corrupt them from within. Followers tend to be highly intelligent, deeply ambitious, and skilled at presenting a respectable face to the world while pursuing entirely selfish ends.
Divine Relationships
Asmodeus has complicated relationships with most deities — he is powerful enough that even greater deities deal with him carefully. Tiamat is imprisoned in his domain of Avernus and the two have a tense, adversarial relationship despite — or because of — this proximity. He is opposed by Tyr, Torm, and the lawful good deities most directly, and by Selûne and other deities of freedom and light. Even evil deities are wary of his schemes, as he views them all as pieces in his long game rather than genuine allies.
