Gond is the god of craft, invention, and the making of things — the patron of smiths, engineers, architects, and all who create through skill and ingenuity. He is fascinated by the process of making: the transformation of raw materials into useful or beautiful objects. He cares less about what is made than about the skill and innovation involved in making it.
Gond is notably pragmatic and amoral in his approach — he cares about whether something works, not whether it should exist. He has provided knowledge of weapon-making to both sides of wars and crafted devices of both healing and destruction, seeing the application of his gifts as the mortal’s problem rather than his own.
Followers
Gond’s followers are smiths, architects, engineers, inventors, and artificers. His temples double as workshops and often hold the most advanced crafting facilities in a region. His clergy are expected to be skilled craftspeople themselves and to share knowledge of their craft freely. They tend to be practical, innovative, and sometimes so focused on the elegance of their work that they lose sight of its consequences.
Divine Relationships
Gond is allied with Oghma, as knowledge and craft are deeply intertwined. He has a respectful relationship with Moradin, the dwarven god of smithing, though their approaches differ — Moradin emphasizes tradition while Gond celebrates innovation. He has a complicated history with Mystra, as his inventions sometimes push the boundaries of what magic should be used for.
