The Talvereth Crisis
Religious divisions, economic strain, and the influence of The Velvet Ledger pushed Talvereth to a breaking point, erupting into full-scale riots and the Battle for Talvereth.
Prelude: A City on the Brink
Two sparks lit the fire:
- The Goldbrook seat. Roughly three months earlier, Council member Jeffro Goldbrook was assassinated in his own home. The campaign to fill his vacant seat — widely seen as bought and rigged — convinced many that the whole system was corrupt.
- The Prophetess. The Yondallan seer Bruna Mossvale preached on the city’s outskirts that the “Age of Greed” would bring ruin without repentance, and her movement swelled into open defiance.
Beneath both, the Velvet Ledger pulled threads, and the city’s religious and economic tensions did the rest.
The Battle for Talvereth
Champions Guild teams deployed across the city.
Apprentice Team
- Rescued Dando Thornspill from a fortified bank
- Eliminated Captain Gangplank, leader of the riots
- Secured the Grand Court strategic command point
- Failed to rescue Berrick Copperlane, who was killed in custody after the explosion
- Failed to eliminate the Velvet Ledger headquarters
- Failed to disarm a bomb in a Waukeen temple — guild member Warjo remained behind attempting to disarm it and was killed in the explosion
Acolyte Teams — Largely stabilized their districts and rescued Fenla Thistlevault, but the prison ship remained active and threats in the sewers went unresolved, with contamination spreading.
Initiate Team — Rescued Sedric Stonewharf, but the rail system was not restored and goliath raiders were not stopped.
The Bombs — Three bombs were handled. One detonated in a Waukeen temple. The city avoided total destruction.
Outcome & Recognition
All Champions Guild participants were awarded the title Shield of Talvereth.
Eleven Gilded Council members died in the Crisis: Marlowe “Silvertongue” Grint, Hestira Goldwhistle, Velza Merriweather-Bramblehook, Ruford Halfpenny, Berrick Copperlane, Maela Quickwater, Pella Nighttoll, Tansy Fairwheeler, Liora Warmcoin, Kip Thornettle, and Corin Hearthwhistle. With Goldbrook’s earlier assassination, twelve of the Council’s twenty seats now sit vacant. The eight survivors are listed under the Gilded Council.
The prophetess Bruna Mossvale also died during the Crisis. Her followers remain, and some now call her a martyr.
Lingering Consequences
- The Velvet Ledger remains active within the city
- The sewers are contaminated
- Religious tensions remain high
