Milil is the god of poetry, song, and eloquent speech — the divine embodiment of artistic expression through the spoken and sung word. He is considered a servant or close companion of Oghma, dedicated to the beautiful forms that knowledge and emotion can take through music and poetry. He is depicted as a strikingly handsome man with a voice of supernatural beauty who can move listeners to tears with a simple phrase.

Milil believes that music and poetry are the highest forms of communication — that they can express truths that prose cannot reach and touch parts of the soul that reason cannot access.

Followers

Milil attracts bards, poets, singers, and all who find spiritual meaning in musical or poetic expression. His followers are expected to develop their art to the highest possible level and to use it in service of truth, beauty, and the enrichment of others. His clergy are traveling performers as much as priests — they bring music to communities that have none and preserve songs and poems that might otherwise be lost. They tend to be charismatic, emotionally expressive, and deeply invested in their audience.

Divine Relationships

Milil serves Oghma as a lesser deity and is closely allied with Deneir. He has a warm relationship with Sune, whose domain of beauty complements his own artistic focus. He has a complex history with Lliira, the goddess of joy and dance, whose more exuberant approach to celebration sometimes clashes with Milil’s emphasis on craft and excellence.
