Lolth is the goddess of the drow — the dark elves who dwell in the Underdark — and the embodiment of chaos, treachery, and the predatory nature of the spider. She was once a member of the elven pantheon under Corellon before her corruption and betrayal led to her banishment. She fell into the Abyss and became a demon lord-goddess, reshaping the drow in her image.
Lolth rules through chaos and paranoia. She encourages her followers to betray each other, plot endlessly, and prove themselves through cunning and cruelty. She views weakness as the only true sin and rewards those who climb over others to reach the top — even if that means betraying her own clergy.
Followers
Lolth is worshipped almost exclusively by drow, who organize their society around her faith. Her clergy, composed almost entirely of women called Priestesses, hold the highest social power in drow society and are expected to be ruthless, cunning, and absolutely devoted — while simultaneously plotting against their fellow clergy. Drow society is a constant web of political intrigue, betrayal, and power struggles, all of which Lolth appears to enjoy.
Divine Relationships
Lolth was cast out by Corellon and the Seldarine, and her enmity with elven deities is absolute. She also opposes Eilistraee, a drow goddess of good who seeks to lead the drow back to the surface, as her existence directly threatens Lolth’s hold over her people. She views most other evil deities with contempt or sees them as potential pawns.
