Collaborative, Online D&D (2024) Without Limits

About the Guild

We’re an inclusive, accepting group made up of individuals from all walks of life, who have formed a community around our love of D&D and collaborative story-telling. You’ll like it here.

The Champions Guild is similar in structure to Adventurers League or a West Marches-style game, but with a major difference: your choices matter.

This is a long-term campaign with an evolving world shaped by the players. You can join games whenever your schedule allows, take breaks as needed, and always come back to a living world that moves forward with or without you.

There is an overarching story, divided into narrative “Seasons.” These often culminate in large multi-table Epic events, where several parties play at once, working together (or in parallel) to influence the outcome of major events.

Most quests are 1 to 3 sessions. Not every mission will change the world—but any of them could. Even small choices can have lasting consequences.

— Josh, Lead DM

Joining the Guild

The Champions Guild is a newly established adventuring guild based in Ciliren, Eryndor’s largest city and the epicenter of gnomish innovation. Perched on a windswept plateau where river meets sea, Ciliren is a city of endless invention and organized chaos—and it’s here that the Champions Guild has carved out its first foothold. In a world of gears and glyphs, they bring stories, sacrifice, and the strength to make a difference. It’s a modest beginning, but every great banner starts with a single oath… and a few brave souls willing to take the risk.

The Champions Guild is made up entirely of Player Characters—adventurers who’ve taken up the badge and pledged to face danger in exchange for coin, glory, and the chance to change the world. No one stumbles into this life. Whether your character seeks gold, justice, power, or something more personal, they chose to walk through the guildhall doors and take up the mantle of a Champion. This is a calling, and every member is here for a reason.

Age Requirement: This server is for people 16+ years of age. If you are currently under 16, keep us in mind and revisit when you’re older.

The Champions Guild Culture

The Champions Guild is made up of adventurers from every walk of life—soldiers, spellcasters, scholars, and scoundrels. But what unites them isn’t power, it’s purpose.

What makes your character interesting isn’t what they are—it’s who they are. The guild accepts all classes and skills. What you bring to the table matters, but we care far more about the person swinging the sword than the sword itself.

The Champions Guild is more than a collection of adventurers—it’s a shared name, a reputation, and a commitment to something greater than yourself.

We don’t expect you to be a selfless soldier. You’ll have your own goals, your own motives—but when you wear the guild’s badge, you’re expected to uphold our values, work with your allies, and protect the people of this land… or at least not get caught doing otherwise.

Disagreements and rivalries happen. But when it matters, Champions have each other’s backs. Whatever your class or cause, there’s a place for you here—if you’re willing to earn it.

Character Creation

Where to Build Your Character

You are responsible for creating and maintaining your character sheet using either:

D&D Beyond If you use this option, make sure your character sheet is set to “Public”.

Champions Guild–Hosted Foundry Server If you’d like to use Foundry to manage your character, go to join-barracks on Discord.

You are fully responsible for maintaining your own character sheet. Whether you use Foundry or D&D Beyond, it’s up to you to ensure your sheet is accurate, up to date, and reflects any changes to your character. Use whichever platform you prefer—just keep it current.

Backstory

All characters are members of the Champions Guild, headquartered in Ciliren, the capital of the Gnomes. Your character can originate from anywhere in Eryndor, but they must have a reason for joining the guild.

As part of character creation, you’ll need to answer the three questions below. These aren’t just fluff—they’re meant to help you build a character with depth, purpose, and a real place in the world.

Goals:

  • What are your character’s goals, dreams, or ambitions?
  • Why did they choose the life of an adventurer?

Morals:

  • What are your character’s morals, values, or personal code?
  • Would they lie, steal, or kill to achieve their goals—or are there limits they won’t cross?
  • What is their alignment?

Fears:

  • What keeps your character up at night?
  • This could be a literal fear (like deep water or undead), or something deeper such as failure, abandonment, irrelevance, etc.

Submitting Your Character

Once your character is complete, it must be logged and approved on the Champions Guild website before you can play.

  1. Go to the My Characters section on the site
  2. Click Add New Character and fill in all required information
  3. Click Submit when you’re ready

A Scribe will review your submission. If anything needs clarification, they’ll contact you. Otherwise, they’ll approve it—once approved, you’re free to sign up for quests!

Advancement

Multiclassing

If appropriate for story reasons, multiclassing becomes available after you’ve gained 3 levels in your primary class. Any multiclass must get approval on Discord in the approvals channel.

Leveling Up

We use a modified Experience Points (XP) system for character progression. Each completed session earns your character 1 XP, regardless of quest type or difficulty.

You’re not forced to level up when you hit the XP threshold, but you won’t earn additional XP until you do.

You cannot earn more XP than what’s required to reach your next level. Once you’ve earned the required amount, you’ll stop gaining XP until you complete your level-up. After leveling, your XP resets to 0, and you cannot skip levels.

Ranks

The Champions Guild uses a rank structure to reflect a character’s experience and progression. Ranks are tied directly to your character’s level, and promotions happen automatically as you level up—there are no trials or evaluations required.

Prospect (Levels 1–2) Prospects are not official guild members yet. These characters are new recruits proving themselves. To join the guild fully, a Prospect must complete 2 Prospect Quests.

Initiate (Levels 3–4) Initiate is the first official rank within the Champions Guild. If you’ve already completed your Prospect Quests on a different character, you may start new characters at this rank.

Joining & Playing in Quests

Quest Access

Quests are posted on the Quest Board on championsguildrpg.com, and all signups must happen through the site. Quests are often shared in Discord as well, with a link provided for sign-up. Only Player Characters whose rank matches the quest can sign up.

DMs may allow higher or lower rank characters to join at their discretion—but you should check with the DM first.

Party Formation

When signups close, the DM will use the website’s random party selector to “roll” which characters are chosen for the quest. This keeps the process fair and gives everyone a chance to participate.

For some quests—especially those with personal story ties or narrative arcs—the DM may pre-select one or more players. DMs may also exclude characters for a variety of reasons—for example, if a character isn’t the appropriate rank or if their playstyle doesn’t fit the theme or tone of the quest.

Consumables

When signing up, you’ll choose which consumables your character is bringing into the quest. This includes:

  • Magical items (potions, spell scrolls, etc.)
  • Non-magical items (poisons, caltrops, etc.)

We don’t track ammunition or rations—this is a game about slaying dragons, not balancing ledgers.

You may adjust your consumables up until the quest begins. Once it starts, your selected items are locked. A character may bring a maximum of 7 consumables into a quest.

What You Need to Play

  • Character — You will need an approved character to play. See Character Creation if you haven’t yet.
  • Computer — Foundry doesn’t really work on mobile. A computer is strongly recommended.
  • Mic — The DM has enough to track without reading messages. You will need a mic to play.
  • Decent Internet Connection — It just needs to be good enough to run Foundry and Discord.
  • Webcam (Optional) — While not required, a webcam is encouraged and greatly appreciated.

After the Quest

Once the quest concludes, your character’s XP, gold, and any earned rewards will be automatically added to your profile on the website. You are responsible for updating your character sheet on D&D Beyond or Foundry VTT to reflect these changes. If your sheet doesn’t match the website, a DM may remove you from that quest and future quests until the discrepancy is resolved.

After each session, you’ll also have the opportunity to leave feedback:

  • Rating the session overall
  • Giving “Thumbs Up” to players you enjoyed adventuring with
  • Choosing 1 “MVP” for the player who stood out most that game

Feedback helps highlight great teamwork, roleplay, and player contribution—and makes the community better for everyone.

Auctions

The Auction allows players to buy and sell magical equipment using gold. You can list items for sale or place bids on items posted by other characters.

How Auctions Work

Champions Guild uses a proxy bidding system (similar to eBay). When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you’re willing to pay. The system will automatically increase your bid just enough to stay ahead of others. You’ll only pay what’s needed to win—not your full max unless someone else forces it.

When you bid:

  • Your max bid amount is set aside and put on standby
  • If you’re outbid, you get all your gold back
  • If you win, you’re refunded the difference between your max bid and the final sale price

Auction Rules

  • You may only bid with active characters
  • You may not bid on your own items, even across different characters
  • When you post an item for auction, it is immediately removed from your character’s inventory
    • If the item receives no bids, it will be returned to you
    • If it sells, you’ll receive gold once the auction ends

Auction Conduct The auction system is a privilege and must be used fairly. Abuse, manipulation, or dishonesty may result in removal from the system or further disciplinary action.

Prohibited behavior includes:

  • Colluding to drive up prices
  • Pressuring others to sell or buy items
  • Listing items with the intent to benefit a future character

This is not an exhaustive list. If you’re unsure about something, ask a Mod or Admin before proceeding.
