The Obsidian Chain is the more blatant and widespread of the two Chain organizations. Led by High Seer Vaelthas, it is a cult of secrecy, domination, and forbidden knowledge. It gathers failed apprentices, ambitious mages, compromised officials, and scholars willing to trade conscience for power.
Its structure is hierarchical and dangerous, with outer servants collecting secrets while inner circles control the deeper doctrine. Its goal is magical control through fear, ritual, forbidden texts, and infiltration. In Lexovar, it may appear as a secret study circle or hidden academy faction. Elsewhere, it may look like a cult cell, forbidden book trade, or patronage network offering power at a terrible price.
