Nestled in the cradle of two low mountain ridges, Velgard Hold is the fortified palace of the Duchy of Aremir. Built partially into the mountainside and partially out on great terraces overlooking the valley, it is both a center of governance and a fortress of last resort. Beneath the palace lies a vast underground shelter designed to store grain, ore, weapons, and refugees if needed.
Ruler
Duke Garran Velmouth is a lean, hard-eyed veteran with a permanent limp from an old frost giant encounter. Once commander of a mountain patrol battalion, he now rules Aremir with a survivalist’s pragmatism. His court is filled with former adventurers, dwarven engineers, and grim-faced mining barons. He mistrusts ceremonial displays and despises useless nobles. His open criticism of the kingdom and his questions about why northern and southern Kastalshire should remain one nation have placed him in a precarious position.
