Thumdar

Thumdar is a colossal underground metropolis carved into the roots of the world. Its vaulted caverns stretch for over a mile vertically, lit by veins of glowing moss and enchanted fragment lanterns. The city echoes with the clang of forges, the murmur of prayers to Moradin, and the steady beat of dwarven boots across rune-etched stone.

Unlike the clan-run cities, Thumdar is ruled directly by High King Durak Stonemantle, a revered sovereign chosen once per generation by the ten clan elders. Once chosen, a king renounces his old clan and claims all dwarves as brothers and sisters.

Key Features

The Hall of Oaths — A massive chamber where every law, alliance, and royal decree is carved into stone walls. Violating an oath made here is punishable by exile or death.

The Stone Road Gate — A titanic adamantine gate guarded by warding golems, connecting Thumdar to the other clan cities via the underground Stone Road.

The Depths — A sealed level beneath the city accessible only to the king and his most trusted guardians. Holds ancient relics, magical engines, and secrets from before the clans united.

Districts

The Anvilspire — The city’s spiritual and symbolic center, dominated by the Grand Temple of Moradin. High Forgefather Ordrin Flameheart oversees both worship and the sacred Royal Forge.

Stoneward Bastion — The military heart of Thumdar and home to Stoneward Academy. Marshal Brega Stonefist trains soldiers in siege warfare, tunnel fighting, and disciplined formation combat.

Runeforge Hall — The arcane and defensive center where magical engineers maintain wards and enchantments. Dean Keldra Runevein directs the Runeforge College.

Deepmarket — A sprawling trade hub of forges, gemcutters, and merchant guilds, open to non-dwarves. Coinwarden Thaldren Hammersum ensures fair trade and collects every coin due.

The Embervaults — A volatile forge and industrial sector powered by magma channels. Accidents are common, but so is invention. Artificer-Master Brumli Ashbelt leads the Ember Guild, working with rune-powered prosthetic arms after losing both in a blast.

King’s Reach — A high terrace lined with watchtowers and ceremonial halls housing the Thronehold and royal archives. Each clan holds and keeps a hall here where councilors and chiefs stay when in Thumdar. Lord Steward Farnik Graymantle manages the palace and its elite Stonecloak Guard.
