Dalath
Dalath lies in the southern hills of the Dominion, roughly fifty miles from Sylvandar’s reach. Long before the Drakmir claimed it, the land belonged to the elves, and traces of that older rule still appear beneath soot, stone, and iron — a broken arch in a factory wall, a root-carved chamber beneath a foundry, or a half-buried elven road under a rail line.
When the old fighting made the surface too exposed, the Drakmir drove workshops, shelters, stores, and engines beneath the hills. The city never fully disappeared underground, but it learned how to survive below as well as above. Dalath respects usefulness more than elegance. Its citizens admire work that holds, machines that survive testing, and leaders who understand the labor they command.
Districts
The Ironweft — Fills the central hills with gearhalls, assembly floors, furnace sheds, and open machine yards. Loud enough to shake window glass above; delicate processes in deeper chambers.
The Emberveil Quarters — Workers live in stacked stone homes blackened by smoke, lit by emberglass. Some homes open onto streets, others into tunnels.
The Alkahest Wells — Partly beneath the old hills, sealed behind thick doors and vented through squat towers. Air carries sharp scent of refined fuel, treated Fragment residue, and chemical heat.
The Chain Assembly — Long valley floor where the largest engines and war machines can be moved by rail. Scarred by test tracks, crane lines, reinforced bunkers, and old impact marks from elven strikes.
The Rootglass Deep — The strangest part of Dalath. Lies beneath the western quarter where Drakmir expansion broke into old elven chambers grown from pale rootwood and glasslike stone. The Dominion studies the place, uses what it can, and seals what it does not trust.
Leadership
Scale Bearer Raxiv Moltane — Brass-scaled dragonborn with furnace scars along his arms. Known for speaking plainly enough to make polished politicians uncomfortable.
Chief Mechanist Izket Coilborn — Kobold engineer regarded as one of the finest in the Dominion. Quick, exacting, famous for removing officers from her workshops before they realize she has the authority to do it.
Alchemist Vraxa Sootveil — Leads the Alkahest Wells with a calm that unsettles visitors. Has survived enough explosions that apprentices watch her hands more closely than her face.
Forge-Captain Dorrak Cindermane — Commands the Chain Assembly’s military production yards. Treats every war machine as something that must be trained before it can be trusted.
Rootwarden Saelrix Thorne — Green-scaled kobold historian-engineer. Studies the old elven chambers beneath the city. Insists that Dalath’s future depends on understanding what the Dominion buried under its own victory.
