Zakath
Zakath is carved into the face and heart of a sheer obsidian mountain, where black cliffs rise above roads stained by ore dust and old smoke. From a distance, the city looks less built than embedded — its towers, bridges, vaults, and liftworks sunk into stone that glows faintly wherever Fragment veins run near the surface.
The Dominion’s richest Fragment mine lies beneath Zakath. Its wealth has made the city powerful, but never relaxed. In Zakath, prosperity is treated as something dangerous enough to require guards, ledgers, seals, and witnesses.
The city rises upward and downward at once. Merchant halls and vault towers climb the cliff face, while miners, engineers, and wardens descend into the Deepcut below. Ore carts move along suspended tracks. Lifts groan through shafts of black steel.
Districts
The Vaultspire — Rises from the mountain’s central face, plated in blacksteel and protected by old enchantments. The Adamant Hoard rests within it, holding Dominion reserves, sealed contracts, Fragment accounts, and treasures too politically dangerous to leave in private hands.
The Deepcut — Descends into the living mine. Its tunnels glow with raw Fragment light and its workers move through heat, dust, pressure, and silence with the care of people who know a careless strike can wake the stone.
The Emberfront — Spreads across the upper city where money moves with polished restraint. Broker houses, auction chambers, foreign counting rooms, and merchant estates crowd the terraces.
The Ashlace Warrens — Run through the lower supports and side tunnels. Kobold families, lift crews, repair guilds, and tunnel engineers keep the city from collapsing under its own ambition.
The Iron Lattice — The web of bridges, rails, pulleys, and lift platforms that binds the city together. Maintained constantly — in Zakath a failed cable can ruin a family, a guild, or a district before anyone finishes screaming.
Leadership
Scale Bearer Myrrik Velthorn — Gold-scaled dragonborn economist and master of trade law. Known for treating value as a language most people speak badly.
Krellit Nine-Ring — Kobold guildmaster leading the Fragment Smith Academy. Golden monocle, pleasant voice, and a habit of becoming dangerous the moment someone mishandles his mine.
Lazarra Thornebrand — Controls several of the city’s most powerful broker towers. Silver-scaled, immaculate, generous in public.
Magister Bolth Kegclamp — Oversees lift safety, mine mechanisms, and the city’s moving infrastructure. Was a blacksmith before bureaucracy claimed him.
Deepwarden Sarvok Rusk — Commands the mine guard. Black-scaled dragonborn with a cracked voice and a reputation for refusing evacuation orders until every living worker has been counted.
