Empyrean Hold
Empyrean Hold is not just a city — it’s a warning. From its jagged perch high above the hills of the Redmarch Coalition, it looks down with righteous scorn and sharpened steel. The sun never fully sets here; arcane mirrors redirect light across the fortress, bathing everything in golden radiance or silvery moonlight. It is said to be the first place the dawn touches each day.
It is the headquarters of the Skyborne Cavalry, Solara’s elite winged war division, and the most aggressively militarized post in the entire Bastion. Frequent skirmishes with goblinoid raiders, wyverns, and Redmarch warbands keep the garrison on constant alert. Compassion is discouraged. Efficiency is rewarded. Valor is mandatory.
“To fall is to fail” — etched above every sleeping chamber.
Leadership
High Skywarden Seraphiel Thorne — Once a soaring champion of the Skyborne Cavalry, she commands from the Aerie of Wills. Clad in sky-blue armor with a spear that sings as she strikes. Known for her obsession with speed, altitude control, and swift public punishment. Trusted absolutely by the Highlord of Valor.
Districts
The Windfang Battlements
The outermost defense ring — layers of parapets and open-air turrets set along staggered cliffsides. Skyborne Cavalry launch from here astride pegasi, sphinxkin, and giant griffons. Fire-lensed ballistae aimed skyward at rest and downward at need.
The Aerie of Wills
The central command tower built across three levels of glass-inlaid stone and winged bronze. Home to High Skywarden Thorne’s war chambers, scrying altars, and judgment platform. Elevators run by radiant gears enchanted with wind essence and fragments.
Sunrift Quarter
Military housing and mess zone carved into windbreak cliffs. Soldiers rest sparingly, feast, and undergo “virtue training.” Murals of martyrdom and radiant conquest line every corridor.
The Skyrune Vaults
A sanctified forge-and-ritual zone for maintaining and enchanting Skyborne gear. Holy saddles, sunforged javelins, and skybind armor crafted here.
The Talonspire Academy
The training bastion of the Skyborne Cavalry. New recruits learn aerial combat, swoop drills, divine maneuver tactics, and the Laws of Above. Final trials involve live-flight combat over Redmarch territory. Death is considered a refining fire. Cadets who end patrols with clean spears don’t graduate.
